Discovering more about Ancient Egypt |

Iconic Egypt! |
Since my last post the weather has started cooling down, everything has fallen into place at school
and I’ve been venturing further afield to see more of this intriguing land. CAC has shown me much
warmth and support since my arrival and this past month I’ve gained some more insight into how
genuinely this school encourages community mindedness. We hosted our first family picnic of the
year which saw families joining us for a lunch time picnic, I had an almost full house at our Family
Math Night and my Pre-K parents worked out a schedule amongst themselves to order and deliver
our monthly pizza lunches. Many of our families stay after school to support their children’s social
development as they play on our green grass and get some fresh air before heading home for the
evening. I’ve noticed that siblings drop in to say hello to their little brother or sister and also stop to
chat to my TA and I. It is truly a lovely community to be part of.
This month I began fleshing out what my appraisal would look like this year. I was part of a lovely
collaborative session with our principal to ensure I was moving forward with my professional growth.
I have enjoyed sharing some of my knowledge about documentation in an early years setting. Our
PLCs began and I thoroughly relished the opportunity to work with our resident SLP expert. The
children are flourishing in their beautiful learning space and I am very thankful for all that I'm
experiencing.

As a young traveller I used to devour guide books before and during my travels. I’ve discovered that
no matter how much I read about Ancient Egypt, I am only just scratching the surface. A local travel
agency who prides themselves on helping visitors to uncover the ‘real’ Egypt have been solely
responsible for opening my eyes to the wonder of Egypt. The company came highly recommended
by a friend on staff and I’ve already used them to take me all over the city and further afield as well.
Having a local guide is invaluable in my quest to soak up as much knowledge as I can before I head
back to India - to do continue doing the very same thing there! Yesterday I was in Memphis, Sakkara
and Dashour and the travel company sent a new guide with us who is a TV presenter here in Cairo.
She was brilliant - we found ourselves deep underground in burial tombs with a prominent Egyptologist
who was reading and interpreting all of the hieroglyphics to us. We saw a red pyramid, a bent pyramid
and a step pyramid all in one day. In many ways, it is actually quite difficult to capture my thoughts to
provide some semblance of a description regarding exactly how much I’ve learned since I’ve been here
in these few short months.
I've seen some live music, cruised the Nile, relaxed at a few pools, been diving outside of Hurghada in the
Red Sea, found the ultimate Thai spa, relished every opportunity to eat the local cuisine, shopped for more
artifacts and made the most of this lovely community of people who surround me.
